"If
only there had been more time."
" When
I was a child I knew I wanted to be a protector, someone noble and
selfless. I looked up to the guards in town, they wore this heavy armor
that would always shine in the sun...I always thought they looked like knights
and I wanted to be one. Many years later a disease struck through our
town. It took nearly half of our town's population and there was nobody
who could save us. All the guards I looked up to for so many years were
all laying on the ground lifelessly. These men and women were my
inspiration growing up and now they weren't shinning in the sun, but
rather laying there breathing their final breathes. I left my town that
day and soon after I came across the Organization. If I joined them, I
could learn how to heal and save my town, so I took their offer and
became a healer for the Organization. Months passed like days as I
trained, before I knew it I had been there for two years.
One afternoon I got summoned. This wasn't an unusual
request by any means as I would be summoned to heal the injured
relatively frequent, but this time it was different then the rest. A
woman in the mountains was dying, I had no time. I had to make haste,
but the mountains was not an easy place to reach by foot. So I was
escorted by horse to the facility in the mountains where she had been
taken. Every moment that passed felt like an hour, I knew her time was
running out. This was the first time I had to heal someone in such
critical condition, the pressure was immense and I couldn't shake the
feeling.
We finally arrived, I saw what I believed to be her family
sitting there waiting helplessly. I rushed inside and was immediately
brought to her. The woman was laying with a smile on her face, she
looked at me and said "My daughter...please tell her that I love
her and that mommy will be watching over her." My heart sank,
"Wait, there is time!" I started to cast my quickest healing
spell, but she closed her eyes and I knew I was to late. I stood there
for a few minutes, not knowing what to do. I had lost her and there was
nothing I could do. A guard came up to me and told me my presence was no
longer needed, I walked out of the facility and saw a guard talking to
the family...they were in shambles, completely destroyed. I wanted to
say something, anything...but no words came out of my mouth.
...If only there had been more time. "
